Precedent is a Wellington IT services business. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and how you can access or correct it. We handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
- When you contact us: if you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, phone number and whatever you include in your message. If you phone us, we may note your name, number and what you need.
- When you visit the site: we use Matomo, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to understand how the site is used. It records information such as the pages you view, how you arrived, your browser and device type, and an approximate location. Matomo sets first-party cookies on your device for this purpose. We also record when someone submits the contact form or clicks our phone number or email address, so we know which pages are useful.
- Technical information: our website host and our security and performance provider (Cloudflare) process technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.
Why we collect it
We use your contact details only to respond to your enquiry, provide services you ask for, and keep records of our dealings with you. We use analytics information to improve the website. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for unrelated purposes without your consent.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the website and our business, such as our website host, email provider and Cloudflare, and only as needed for them to provide those services. Some of these providers may store or process information outside New Zealand. When that happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure the information is protected in a way comparable to the Privacy Act. We will also disclose information if the law requires it.
How we protect it
We protect personal information with reasonable security safeguards, including access controls, multi-factor authentication, encrypted connections and regular updates. We keep enquiry information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above or to meet legal obligations.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. To make a request, call us on 04 282 0045 or use our contact form. We will respond as soon as we can, and within 20 working days.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work if you do.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
