Precedent

IT Support for Wellington Schools and Education Providers

A school’s technology has to be ready for the first bell, every day of term. Devices need to be charged, enrolled and filtered, accounts need to work, and student information has to be kept private. Most schools don’t have a full-time IT person, so this work often falls to a teacher or the office. Precedent takes it off their hands.

We support schools, kura, early learning centres and private training establishments across the region, including Wellington City, the Hutt Valley, Porirua, Kāpiti and Wairarapa.

Systems we work alongside

Student management systems such as Kamar, Hero and eTAP; Google Workspace for Education and Microsoft 365 Education; Chromebooks, iPads and Windows laptops; learning platforms such as Moodle; early learning apps such as Storypark; school-supplied internet and filtering; Xero and payroll systems.

Protecting student information

Schools hold sensitive information about children and their families. Under the Privacy Act, a serious privacy breach must be reported to the Privacy Commissioner and the people affected. We make sure staff accounts are protected, access to student records matches each person’s role, and you have a plan if something goes wrong.

Where AI can help

  • Report comments: First drafts of report comments from a teacher’s own notes, ready for them to edit
  • Lesson resources: Worksheets and readings adapted for different levels in minutes
  • School office: Newsletters, enrolment paperwork and policy summaries drafted and tidied
  • Family communication: Messages translated into the languages your families speak

We set this up with approved education versions of tools such as Gemini, Microsoft 365 Copilot or Claude, keep student information out of public AI tools, check age and usage rules for each tool, and make sure a teacher reviews anything before it’s shared. More about AI integration.

First step: a technology health check

We review your network, device management, accounts, backups and who can see student records, and give you a prioritised list of fixes.

Common questions

Do you replace our school internet provider?
No. Many schools get their internet and filtering through a Ministry-funded service. We work alongside it and look after everything inside the school: WiFi, devices, accounts and systems.

Can you do the big jobs in the holidays?
Yes. Upgrades, device rebuilds and network work are scheduled for term breaks, so classes aren’t disrupted.
