IT Support for Wellington Health Practices
Clinics run on a practice management system, a handful of PCs and devices, and patient trust. When the booking system stops, or a laptop holding clinical notes goes missing, the whole day is affected. Precedent looks after the technology in physiotherapy, dental, psychology, optometry and other health practices so the clinic keeps running and patient information stays protected.
We support practices across the Wellington region, typically with 5 to 30 staff.
Systems we work alongside
Cliniko, Gensolve, Nookal and Zanda for allied health; Exact, Dental4Windows and Praktika for dental; Medtech Evolution and Indici in general practice; Optomate in optometry; HealthLink secure messaging; imaging and device software connected to X-ray units, scanners and diagnostic equipment; Microsoft 365, Xero and eftpos.
HISO 10029, in plain English
Health New Zealand’s Health Information Security Framework (HISO 10029) sets security expectations for anyone holding health information. Its guidance for micro to small organisations is written for practices like yours: a single site, up to about 25 staff, and IT support that is mostly outsourced. Alongside the Health Information Privacy Code 2020, it gives you a clear baseline, and we help you meet it without jargon.
What’s included
- Practice system care: The PC, server or cloud connection your practice software depends on, integrations, and liaison with your vendor
- Clinical device support: PCs attached to imaging and diagnostic equipment, kept patched and working without breaking the device software
- Patient-data security: Multi-factor authentication, encrypted devices, access that ends when staff leave, and secure messaging set up properly
- Backup and continuity: Tested backups of practice data and a plan for keeping appointments running if systems fail
- Proactive care: Monitoring, patching and a help desk for reception and clinical staff
This sits on top of our core managed IT service, tailored to your practice.
Business-hours support, Monday to Friday 08:30–17:00, with after-hours cover arranged for managed service clients when you need it.
First step: a practice security baseline
We review your practice against the HISO 10029 guidance for small organisations and give you a one-page action list, in priority order.
Common questions
Do you replace our practice software vendor’s support?
No. They support the application; we support everything it runs on and connects to, and we deal with them on your behalf when something breaks.
Can you work around clinic hours?
Yes. Updates and larger changes are scheduled to avoid disrupting patients, with after-hours cover arranged for managed service clients.
Is HISO 10029 compulsory for us?
Requirements depend on your contracts and funding arrangements. Either way, it is a sensible, recognised baseline for protecting patient information, and it is what funders and patients increasingly expect.
